Week in Review: Lindsey Graham, Last Man Standing, and Playoff Baseball

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham had an outburst of rage against his Democratic colleagues at yesterday’s Kavanaugh hearings. The episode was a chilling reminder of the state of the American political system. For Republicans, this represents the anger that has resulted from, what they believe, to be a ploy to stop the nomination of Trump’s nominee. For Democrats, this represented another example of Republicans in Congress bowing to the will of the President and further engaging in their war on women. The vote to approve Kavanaugh was planned for tomorrow, but Senator Jeff Flake requested an FBI investigation for next week. This has been a discouraging week in American Politics, and a further decline of the state of public discourse of the United States. Read more here.
Fox’s reboot of Last Man Standing premieres tonight. For those that are not familiar with the show, it stars Tim Allen as a disgruntled middle-class dad who provides a fairly accurate representation of the political culture that created Donald Trump. Similar to Roseanne, conservatives have supported the show as it has fairly consistently represented conservative views and real-life realities. A concerning reality that the culture war has expanded even to the shows we watch. Vox had a comprehensive view of the show here.
Major League Baseball’s regular season concludes next week, with the first game of the 2018 playoffs on Tuesday. The Cubs and Brewers are still fighting for the NL Central title. Over in the American League, the whole picture is set with Boston, Houston, and Cleveland as Division Champs and the Yankees and A’s in the Wildcard. You can get the whole playoff picture here.
