On the morning of November 11th, the United North Park Student Coalition released a new letter. This letter contained an introduction, detailing the ways in which the University the Coalition believes North Park hasn’t fully realized the promises made to students on the website and in the Undergraduate Student Handbook.

Following this introduction, there was a list of nine demands. Within this list, The Coalition implored the administration to:

  • Stop tokenizing students of color.

  • Hire a Director of Diversity by the end of January.

  • Create a Standing Diversity Board Committee by the end of November to search for the new Director of Diversity.

  • The new Diversity Board Committee create a Statement of Diversity.

  • Hire a third party, impartial mediator to help facilitate the carrying of these demands and dialogue between administration and students.

  • Deal with the mishandling of Title IX cases.

  • Provide increased transparency about future university dealings to prevent the situation which prompted the letter from happening again.

  • Change the culture to one which is responsive to student concerns.

Following this, the group asked that President Surridge respond to the letter by November 14th.

Vista will continue in its reporting as more information becomes available.
